The underwater abyss could be as dangerous as a trek through the jungle, but without those pesky mosquitos. Either way, you need proper exposure protection. Here at Divers Direct, we have the protection you need, for the underwater environment you're in.
Exposure protection is a crucial part of your scuba equipment setup. Your body loses heat faster in water, and having the proper exposure protection to keep you warm will make your dive more comfortable and enjoyable. Choose a wetsuit thickness based on the water temperature you will be diving in. For the hot summer waters of tropical areas, a dive skin or 1mm wetsuit will keep your skin protected without overheating underwater. Wetsuits range from 3mm thickness for warm temperate waters, to 5mm and 7mm thickness for colder waters. For very cold temperatures, you may even want to consider a drysuit, which will keep your body completely dry. Exposure protection can prevent stings from sea pests such as jellyfish, sea lice, and fire coral. Depending on the water temperature you are diving in, there are full wetsuit options and 'shorty' wetsuit options. A shorty 'wetsuit' will have short sleeves and legs, designed to keep your core warm but leave your appendages free.
