Becoming scuba certified is about safely learning the needed skills to explore the underwater world. Divers Direct is here to connect you with the instructor that will teach you everything you need to know about scuba diving to allow you to safely enjoy explore the waters and get your open water certification.

The Open Water Certification will introduce you to the world of scuba diving. In between 3 to 7 days, we'll teach you everything you need to know to safely and confidently scuba dive to 60ft/18 m! And when you sign up with one of our instructors, you get 10% off all your purchases in the period of the class and up to 30 days after.

To get Open Water certified, follow these three easy steps:

Learn the Theory

Before you get in the water you need to learn the basics of it. During the Knowledge Development part of the process, you’ll be required to read the material prior to meeting with your instructor. After you’re done, you'll attend at least one classroom section to go through what you’ve learned and take your written exam.

After you learned the theory of diving, you’re going to practive with your instructor and other students. In this part of the course, you’ll learn how to set up and break down your scuba gear, as well as experience breathing underwater for the first time!

The "D" Day

The day you were waiting for - your open water dives. This is when you, your instructor and your dive buddies go to your first four open water dives as deep as 60 ft. You will be required to perform certain tasks such as clear your mask to show that you can confidently continue to explore the depths!

You'll learn skills such as how to:

  • Properly use basic scuba gear (mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit, regulator, octopus, dive computer, buoyancy control device (BCD) and scuba tank)
  • Set-up, break down and wash your scuba gear
  • Perform a thorough buddy check
  • Enter and exit the water
  • Remove water from your mask while underwater
  • Control your buoyancy
  • Basic underwater navigation
  • Safety and emergency procedures
  • Dive boat etiquette

After demonstrating your newly learned skills in the Open Water Diver Course and passing the exam, you will earn your Open Water Certification that allows you to dive up to 60ft/18m. Congratulations, you just earned your passport to dive recreationally throughout the world!

The Gear You'll Get

**Your instructor will provide you with the following rental scuba gear:

  • BCD is a buoyancy compensator device and is what gets you to float or sink
  • Regulator so you can breathe underwater
  • Octopus because it's important to always have a back up for your regulator, be it for you or your buddy
  • Dive Computer and Gauge is what gives you crucial information such as depth and time left underwater
  • Scuba tank so you can use the regulator

After you fall in love with the underwater world, you'll want to invest on your own dive equipment. A BC that fits you like a glove, a regulator and octo that you chose, and a dive computer for your type of adventure make a big difference on your experience. PADI and SSI Diving Agencies

Divers Direct connects you to PADI and SSI instructors. Both agencies teach you the same material and are globally known. You can start with one agency and cross to another one, or you can continue to collect certification from different agencies. Many of our instructors are certified in at least two different agencies!

What's the difference?

PADI offers you two option to pick from: classroom and e-learning. In the classroom version, your tuition includes your PADI Open Water book. The e-learning provides you with all the material online, meaning you can study it from anywhere you want.

SSI only offers e-learning. However, as a trial, SSI provides you with the first three chapters of Try Scuba, Scuba Diver, Try Freediving, SSI Mission Deep Blue, Snorkeling and Various Courses FOR FREE when you download the MySSI app (Android and iOS). On top of that, SSI's Open Water Certification class includes Nitrox at no additional charge.

What's Nitrox?

Nitrox is the certification many divers acquire right after their open water. This certification allows you to dive for long periods of time and multiple times a day without worrying about the bends. This means when you sign up for SSI, you're getting two certifications in one class!
