The Abyss 22 Regulator by Mares features a balanced diaphragm first stage, nitrox compatible, tri-material valve, all metal technology, DFC (Dynamic Flow Control), VAD (Vortex Assisted Design) and mesh-grid. The balanced diaphragm first stage has an environmentally sealed design to protect from harsh materials such as silt, suspended particles and other contaminating materials. The all metal technology is ideal for cold diving excursions due to high thermal conductivity that limits the freezing effect. Condensation also collects on metal regulators which enables it to recycle the moisture in each breath creating less dry mouth than plastic regulators. Thanks to DFC, manual adjustment is not necessary with this regulator as it adjusts automatically allowing you enjoy your dive more. VAD, Vortex Assisted Design, is offered in all Mares second stages which utilizes an air bypass tube that conveys air to the mouthpiece and keeps the diaphragm down during inhalation. This allows for very sensitive and easy breathing at all depths. The mesh-grid design on the second stage cover reduces the pressure of water flowing onto the second stage diaphragm and minimizes free-flow.

Compact body, in a modern and smart style, it is made of hot-forged nickel-plated and chromed brass. It is fitted with a preferential intermediate pressure port for connection to the main second stage, plus 3 other LP ports and 2 HP ports. The latter are inclined at a 45º angle to allow a more rational layout of hoses. and ergonomic exhaust tee ensures superior hydrodynamic performance and reduced exhalation resistance.

Abyss second stage, with its VAD system, is made of nickel- and chrome-plated brass. This material offers a number of benefits including absolute ruggedness, thinner walls, and compact dimensions. This results in reduced water drag and an anti-freeze function enhanced by the "radiator action" of the metal.

Its streamlined shape optimizes the traditional profile that is now made efficient by the functional contour on the cover which were developed to make water inflow and outflow easier while breathing and swimming. The cover is made of technopolymer, a lightweight and impact-resistant material. The large manual purge button is placed in a central, perfectly ergonomic position. The mouthpiece is of soft hypoallergenic silicone: limiting jaw fatigue and offering a secure fit even after very long dives.

MR22 offers the unique Mares patented V.A.D. (Vortex Assisted Design) system. This system allows smooth breathing at all depths and is unique. Its operating principle is very simple. The air coming from the hose passes through the second stage valve and is conveyed directly to the mouthpiece through the by-pass tube. Within the mouthpiece, the air flow undergoes a 'vortex' effect.Whenever this swirl occurs, the core of the vortex creates a low pressure area. This low pressure helps keep the second stage diaphragm down while inhaling, thus increasing the regulator sensitivity.

1. Please send returns in ORIGINAL and UNUSED condition. Merchandise that is not in new condition or purchased more than 30 days ago may be subject to a restocking fee of 20% of the purchase price or may not be accepted. There is a 20% restocking fee for all returned camera and photo accessories, and all Brownies Explorers.

Bathing suits are items of personal hygiene and it is a Divers Direct policy not to accept returns or exchanges without the original tags still on the suit. Bathing suits may be returned for manufacturer’s defects within 30 days of purchase with the original receipt.
