In order to choose the correct underwater camera you should be aware of the lastest technology available for digital cams. In the digital photo world, the number of “megapixels” determines the quality of the photo. Today a good consumer cams has anywhere from 7 to 10 megapixels and more advanced still cams have up to 13 megapixels. For most people choosing the right amount of megapixels used to be a tough decision. Today this is no longer an issue and so the decision depends more on your favorite brand name. - Multimedia and Formats: Must be carefully considered if you are a pro or semi-pro in underwater photography do to the fact that you may want more control over your photo settings. Serious underwater photographers use the RAW Image Format of the photo which is not available in all cameras. If you are just starting out this it not such an important consideration.

For underwater camera use it is recommended that you purchase an additional UW strobe instead of using the small “flash” that is often included in the camera body.
