The versatility is great. you can easily go from wide angle to macro while in the water. there is a lack of good depth of field with marco as the highest F stop is 14 and that requires zooming. Unfortunately as you zoom the screen darkens and you cannot see the object. Better F stop than the canon G7 however.
I used this camera on the Great Barrier Reef with good sun and cloudy conditions. The LCD Display was poor; it was most difficult to find fish and even locate areas of coral where fish were with the use of the LCD shade attached. Otherwise pictures were very good, e.g., giant clams, colorful coral, and other non-moving objects. An attachment on top of camera for locating objects and shooting (like my old film underwater camera had) would be a great improvement.

I am primarily a topside photographer. I was looking for something to take great u/w pics without having to rent or own a big kit. I only shoot at shallow depths with available light. I think this camera is great. When I bought it I was in a rush & it seemed like the right thing for me, so I have no other comparisons. I am totally satisfied with the ease of use and the final results for my uses!
