I use this gun for nearshore ledges/reefs to hunt Hogfish and Grouper. This gun has plenty of penetration power, fast, and accurate. It is challanging to load at first, but you get the hang of it after a while. It is also a little noisy, but because the shaft shoots at an impressive speed it compensates for the noise. Had the Ocean Rhino Sea Hornet and I traded it in for this superior speargun.
The Mares 970 features a good manuverable length that offers sighting for good accuracy. It has the power and speed to handle large grouper. I like the half power selector for smaller fish to control penetration. It has the power and punch for good back bone penetration to take the fight out of large grouper.
